Why We Do What We Do

Here at Poppy & Co. we LOVE fashion, and we love trendy clothes, and we want you to love our clothes. But one thing we don't love is what it's costing the environment. We know that you want the latest and greatest fashion statement, but we want you to have it in the most ethical way possible.

We don't cut corners and neither do our suppliers. Our clothes are toxin free to combat water pollution and textile waste. We use all our fabrics in some way or another. That is why you'll often see similar fabrics used in multiple products and product types.

Synthetic fibers are a major contributor to fashion pollution. Polyester, a widely used synthetic fiber, is not biodegradable. This means it can never be broken down into a natural form found on the planet. And still, people buy and throw away products made of polyester and other synthetics. Even when a polyester product is washed it is sending pollutants into the water. These "micro pollutants" enter water ways and the ocean where they contaminate the fish and other animals who drink from these water ways, then people eat the fish, therefore also consuming the pollution that is in the animals body fat and blood stream.

In 2013 alone, 15.1 million pounds of textile waste was produced. Which means that the dye and chemicals used to color and maintain shape of products are entering the environment, whether that be through soil or water. These are also non-biodegradable products, which means that products thrown in the garbage just sit on the Earth, usually in landfills and will be there indefinitely. Once one landfill is full that usually means that another one will have to be opened. The fashion industry is a large contributor to the issue of vast amount of land being used just to store waste created by humans.

These are problems that Poppy & Co. recognizes, and now we hope you can see them to. We want to spark the change in the industry and increase knowledge and importance of such concerns. To bring to light these problems that are entirely preventable with a little bit more effort. We want to see visible change, that's why we do what we do.
